Female Condom - a polyurethane sheath with a ring at each end, one end that is closed and the other that is open. The closed end is placed inside the vagina, against the cervix, and the open end is outside the vagina, and is where the penis is inserted. Female condoms are available without prescription from pharmacies as well as other stores, and like male condoms can only be used once.
Unlike male condoms the female condom can be inserted 6 hours prior to intercourse. It is between 79-95% effective in preventing pregnancy and protects against STD's. Some women find the female condom to be uncomfortable while others find that it stimulates the clitoris. Some people find the female condom to be uncomfortable to insert as well as noisy throughout intercourse.
