Lea's Shield - a round silicone disk that covers the cervix and prevents sperm from entering the uterus and should be used in conjunction with spermicide. Unlike a diaphragm, Lea's Shield comes in one size fits all and can be bought at pharmacies without a prescription. After intercourse Lea's Shield must be left in the vagina for at least 8 hours and can be left inserted for as long as 48 hours.
If used with spermicide, Lea's Shield is 79-92% effective in preventing pregnancy but does not protect against STD's. Some men may feel Lea's Shield during intercourse, which would indicate that the shield has likely been inserted incorrectly.
